A resurgent the Russian player claimed his first trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court after March of 2023.

Victory also signifies he has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to secure a championship is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in that event previously this season.

His defensive approach and frequent reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was finished.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an better service.

The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

The competitors traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to create a decider.

Moutet defended four early chances in a tight final set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
